Wisharts at War
Ever since Wisharts first arrived on British shores they have been involved in conflict. Some have risen to the highest ranks of the military and their lives well-documented, while others, who served in the ranks, have over time been forgotten. In 2010 Scott Wishart began a project to research all those bearing the surname from all countries who served in the First World War. With the project about to enter its tenth year he has, to date, identified over 560 individuals – men and women, who served in uniform between 1914 and 1919. Lists have also been compiled of Wisharts who fought in the various Victorian wars and we have now committed to compile a database of all those who served during the Second World War. Like the Great War project we envisage this will take many years, and we are keen to hear of any living veterans, or families of veterans who may be able to assist us.
