David William Wishart (1952 – )
Wishart Tree WIS0037
Born: 7 December 1952 – Arbroath, Angus.
David is best known as an author. After graduating from Edinburgh University with a degree in Classics, David taught Latin and Greek for 4 years in school before retraining in EFL. He spent 11 years abroad Kuwait, Greece and Saudi Arabia teaching English, a role he describes as “the best job in the world if you like travelling.” It was while he was living in Greece that a strange dream inspired him to write his first novel, a mad sci-fi adventure for children. He later began to seek out historical puzzles that would make interesting novel plots and the next one he came up with was “Why was the Roman poet Ovid sent to the Black Sea and never allowed back?” His novel Ovid was the first to feature Marcus Corvinus, the Roman nobleman sleuth who would go on to star in a whole series of historical crime novels. On the whole, Wishart likes to portray Roman life as accurately as possible. He admits to already having a comprehensive knowledge of Roman history thanks to his Classics degree. He researches his topic thoroughly before starting to write.
After fifteen years and as many books with Hodder & Stoughton, Wishart published the next in the Corvinus series, Bodies Politic, through a small print-on-demand firm, Plashmill Press, and three subsequent books – No Cause for Concern (Corvinus series) and two unrelated timeslip works set in Angus, Hexagon and Jaeger’s Howe – directly through Amazon, which acts as the publishing outlet; all the books, including those published by Hodder, also being available in e-form. He now writes for Severn House, and his first book with them in the Corvinus series, Solid Citizens, will be published in July 2013.
David Wishart is a cooking enthusiast. When he is not writing or experimenting in the kitchen, he is out on long walks with his dog Annie, a pastime that gets his creative juices flowing.
He now lives with his wife in Scotland. He writes under the name of David Wishart.
